These are all made using the Turtle module of Python
If you want to tinker, the code can be found here. It's not beautiful, but it does draw spirals.
The code itself makes .eps postscript files, which then have to be converted. I recommend ImageMagick if you plan to do this in anything like bulk, eg for animating gifs.
